Have you ever asked yourself when is the best time to quit smoking? What season of the year, what month, or even what time of the day? You might wonder is it really critical to find the right time to quit in order to increase your chances of quitting? Well, to some, finding the right time to quit smoking for good does seem to work, while for others, when they fail to quit, they blame it for not quitting at the right time. So is there really the best time to quit smoking or it’s just an excuse made by smokers to defend their vice. Well, I would like to share with you my experience and hopefully it will help you in finding the right time to quit smoking.

Coping up with stress is one main reason why quitting smoking is difficult most especially if these stressful activities are or have been associated deeply with smoking. Because of this many suggest to pick a time or season for that matter where the least stressful activities will present themselves. This might include Christmas, summer or during vacation time away from work. Others on the contrary advise otherwise, they say to avoid the season of Christmas, because during this time, many parties are being celebrated and the time in quitting smoking for good will not present itself. Although there are many varying ideas and suggestions all of them are correct. Some ex-smokers were able to quit during the holiday season, while others were able to quit right after the vacation period.

Based from the experiences of other ex-smokers, the best time to quit smoking for good is different from one person to the other. For some the best time that works is during the holidays while to others the right time is after it. If you are a first time quitter, you know that quitting smoking is a continuous process until you have stopped completely and permanently. So by saying this, what I mean is you find the best time for you to quit smoking. The most important thing for you to do first is to make the commitment to quit smoking for good. After that set a date, talk to your family, relatives and friends and ask for their support then take the plunge and quit. If you fail, do it again, once you have made the commitment don’t stop ever quitting until you have successfully kicked the filthy vice out of your life.

In my experience, during the time I was quitting, which took several months, I was not particular on what part of the year I would quit. I didn’t have the luxury of time and my desire and commitment to quit was really strong. When I set out the date for me to quit, the struggle to be free from nicotine addiction started. Although I was not particular on the part of the year, I was having difficulty choosing what time of the day for me to quit. I experimented with the different hours of the day and I kept on failing to quit during daytime until I finally discovered that the best time for me to quit smoking easily was the time before I went to sleep.

The reason I was successful by quitting in the evening right before retiring is because when I woke up in the morning, I have already quit for 8 hours. That eventually gave me the thrust to continue from abstaining from nicotine and finally I was able to quit smoking for good. Even during my relapse, I was always successful in quitting during night time. So if you are asking when is the best time to quit smoking, well, I guess you alone can answer that. Stress is part of life, you will never find a season, time or moment that is stress free. The important thing is you commit to quit smoking, stay committed and keep on quitting until you have quit successfully.
